AbstractThe aim of this paper was to analyze the land use/land cover change occurred between 1986 and 1999 years over areas around Tapajós National Forest in Pará state, using the TM/Landsat-5 images. The shade fraction images derived from a linear mixture model was presented in a color composite (R 1986, G 1999 and B 1986 - 1999). The changes occurred are represented by the difference and the intensity of colors. Therefore, the shade fraction images are very useful for visual interpretation because they contain information which is related to physical concepts more easily assimilated than class spectral signatures.
